WELCOME, MR. ARNOLD!
The Lake Shore Public School District is proud to introduce our new Director of Bands at Lake Shore High School, Mr. Brad Arnold!

Mr. Arnold is a proud product of the Michigan's Public School system. He graduated from Fraser High School, and earned his degree in Instrumental Music Education with a focus on Trumpet Performance from Michigan State University. He studied trumpet under Justin Emerich and Richard Illman in his time at MSU, and under Ray Oset and Anthony Stanco during his time at Fraser.
While at MSU, Brad Arnold relished the opportunity to contribute to MSU's legacy of success within their storied band program, and he excelled as a member of the Wind Symphony, Principal Trumpet in the Symphony Band, and Trumpet Section Leader within the world renowned Spartan Marching Band. His teachers in wind conducting include Kevin Sedatole (Director of Bands, MSU), John T. Madden (Emeritus Director of the Spartan Marching Band), David Thornton (Associate Director of Bands, MSU) and Tyler Austin (Associate Director of Bands, Oklahoma State University). He also studied jazz with Walter Cano, Diego Rivera (Associate Professor of Jazz, MSU), and Michael Dease (Associate Professor of Jazz, MSU).
Upon completion of his studies at MSU, Mr. Arnold served as student teacher within the Anchor Bay High School band program, under the direction of P. David Visnaw II and Scott Oranchak, where he learned about the importance of working within a team, cultivating organized community support, and building professional relationships with students.
After his time at Anchor Bay High School, Mr. Arnold taught at the International Academy of Macomb High School in Clinton Township, Michigan. The ensembles at the IAM have earned high marks in their participation at Michigan School Band and Orchestra Association District Band Festivals and District & State Solo Ensembles. During his time at the IAM, he oversaw the entire music department, which included two bands, a concert and show choir, many instrumental chamber ensembles, a jazz band, and a rigorous Diploma Programme Music curriculum, which gave interested students the chance to dig deeper in the history, theory, and study of music. This past year, Mr. Arnold served as the Director of Bands at the Perry High School & Perry Middle School and as the Trumpet Instructor at the Flint Institute of Music & the Michigan State University Community Music School. He is an active member of the Michigan School Band and Orchestra Association, National Band Association, National Association for Music Education, and Michigan Music Education Association, Essentially Ellington, and Jazz Education Network.
As a performer, you can hear Mr. Arnold play locally in the Southeastern Michigan Wind Ensemble and the North Oakland Concert Band. He also performs professionally as the on-call trumpet at St. Mary's Catholic Church of Downtown Royal Oak, the Eb Cornet Performer in the Brass Band of Battle Creek's youth organization, and pit musician for various local musicals. As a chamber player, he often plays various brass quintet performances at local festivals, ceremonies, and celebrations. He has been working as a trumpet and brass clinician since 2010 and has been a guest lecturer at Michigan State University and the University of Akron.
Mr. Arnold is elated to return to the Macomb area, as Lake Shore High School is minutes away from where his parents, Al & Christine, sister, Brooke, dog, Henry, and cat, Zoey, live in Fraser, MI. He enjoys performing trumpet, riding his bicycle, playing video games on his Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4, walking his dog, listening to live music, and most importantly, teaching band!
